Data Project 11: The 10 States Where Marriages Last The Longest (And The 10 Where They Don’t)
With Mars Method.
Your zip code might predict your marriage success more than you think. After analyzing 33 years of data across US states, we found that Nevada marriages last 6.5 times longer than divorces, while Delaware couples face the highest risk of splitting up.
Using the MARS method (Mathematics + AI + Reasoning via Machine Learning + Statistics), we ranked every state and uncovered surprising patterns. Utah and Massachusetts dominate long-term stability, while Southern states consistently struggle. Mississippi, West Virginia, and Wyoming appear in every worst-performer list.
Marriage rates have plummeted 44% since 1990 (from 11.87 to 6.69 per 1,000 people). By 2035, forecasts predict rates could drop below 5.0 for the first time in recorded history.
Is marriage dying in America, or just evolving into something different?
